The admission campaign to higher educational institutions in Russia in 2024 is taking place against the backdrop of a difficult geopolitical situation, especially in the regions bordering the zone of the special military operation. The Great Kuban, unfortunately, was no exception.
Decline in entrants:
One of the main challenges was the reduction in the number of applicants from the Krasnodar Territory. According to the Ministry of Education and Science, this year the number of school graduates in the Kuban who want to enter universities has decreased by 18%. Several factors contribute to this decline:
- Uncertainty about the future: Many young people, especially from border areas, are anxious about the future and unsure whether they should start higher education now.
- Outflow of young people: Some potential applicants left the region in search of safer places or to continue their education abroad.
- Economic hardship: In the face of economic instability, some families cannot afford to pay for their children's college education.
In addition to a decrease in the number of applicants, there is also an outflow of young people aged 18 to 22 from the Krasnodar Territory. This is due to both the above factors and the desire of young people to find a job and start an independent life in other regions.
What to do?
Despite the difficulties, it is important to note that the education system in Russia continues to function, and universities are ready to accept applicants.
A number of measures can be taken to support applicants and reduce migration outflow:
- Expansion of targeted training programs: The target quota will allow young people from Kuban to get an education in in-demand specialties and return to the region after graduation to work for the benefit of their region.
- Creation of additional state-funded places: An increase in the number of state-funded places in universities will make education more affordable for applicants from low-income families.
- Development of career guidance programs: Career guidance will help young people make an informed choice of profession and enter a university that will meet their interests and future career plans.
- Psychological support: In conditions of stress and uncertainty, young people need psychological support. Universities and regional authorities should create conditions for psychological counseling of applicants and students.
It is important to understand that education is an investment in the future. Having received a quality education, young people will be able not only to find a good job and provide themselves with a decent life, but also to contribute to the development of the region and the country.
Through the joint efforts of the state, universities and society, it is possible to create conditions that will make higher education accessible and attractive for applicants from the Great Kuban, thereby stopping the migration of young people and laying the foundation for the future prosperity of the region.
