Equifax Credit Bureau conducted a study to identify potential bankrupts in Russia. Their number has increased markedly.

- The number of potential bankrupt individuals in April 2022 increased to 447 thousand people under the regular procedure and 2.342 million people under the simplified procedure, RIA Novosti quotes the authors of the study.

The last time the company counted the number of potential bankrupts among Russians in the first half of 2019 was 344.8 thousand people.

Most potential bankrupts live in Moscow (55.2 thousand people) and the Moscow region (42.5 thousand people), and St. Petersburg closes the top three (22.7 thousand individuals). The fourth place in terms of the number of potential bankrupts is occupied by the Krasnodar Territory (20.2 thousand people).

The smallest number of potential bankrupts lives in the Kostroma region (949 people), Crimea (846 people) and Dagestan (766 people).

Potential bankrupts in the study are citizens who have overdue loan obligations for 90 days or more with a total amount of more than 500 thousand rubles. Russians can go through a simplified bankruptcy procedure from September 1 with a debt of 50,000 to 500,000 rubles.

Thus, based on the current criteria, 4.5% of the number of borrowers under the simplified procedure and about 1% under the standard bankruptcy procedure can qualify for bankruptcy, experts noted.

The specialists predict that the number of both potential and real bankrupts will increase at a pace similar to the growth in the number of defaulted loans.
